Park City’s Mining Heritage
Forged in Silver : Echos of the past
Before Park City became a world-renowned mountain town, it was built on silver.
These photographs celebrate the mines, machinery, structures, and stories that remain—weathered reminders of the miners and families whose grit, ambition, and hard work helped forge Park City.

This is a new and evolving gallery. As I continue photographing Park City’s historic mining sites, I will add new images and stories that help preserve and celebrate this important chapter of our community’s history.
Thaynes Mine (DSC1429) Park City, Utah Built by the Silver King Mining Company in 1937, the Thaynes Shaft descended roughly 1,800 feet and connected with the Spiro Tunnel in 1939. Although the hoped-for rich new ore bodies never materialized, the mine later became part of Park City ski history when skiers traveled underground through the Spiro Tunnel and were hoisted up the Thaynes Shaft to the slopes above. parkcityhistory.org Limited Edition • Signed & Numbered.
