Award-Winning Landscape & Wildlife Photography
of Park City & The American West

Welcome!

My name is David Winegar, an Utah native, and longtime Park City resident. Since 2003, I have created photographic art celebrating the landscapes and wildlife of the American West, presented as finished museum-quality silver prints, fine-art canvas, metal, and archival photographic prints on media sourced for all over the world.

Philosophy. For more than three decades, I have explored and photographed the American West, seeking images that transcend documentation to become art. My hope is that each photograph offers more than beauty—a connection to the natural world, a reflection of our own lives, and a reminder that what we love, we must protect.

Knowing a Place. Certain places stir a spiritual connection from the moment we first experience them. I return time and again, learning their rhythms through changing seasons, light, and skies. My goal is to create art that evokes emotion—not simply photographs of a place, but photographs about a place.

The Art. A fine-art photograph is more than the image itself. The choice of paper, texture, and presentation becomes part of its artistic expression, reinforcing the emotion, atmosphere, and character of the work. For example, Snowstorm Sheet Music is printed on textured Hahnemühle cotton rag paper and presented in a simple black frame. The paper’s organic surface echoes the softness of falling snow, while the understated frame allows the image to speak for itself.

Park City. The trails around my Park City home have inspired images celebrating its wildlife and landscapes, from Rob’s Trail Baby Moose to Rob’s Trail Vista. My photograph Leap of Faith, capturing a red fox leaping across McLeod Creek along Park City’s Old Ranch Road, earned First Place in Wildlife at the Art Wolfe International Photography Awards. This fleeting moment of Park City wildlife earned international recognition and is now on permanent exhibition at Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter.

The Desert. I have a deep love for the desert Southwest. My photograph Balancing Act captures a solitary Utah pinyon pine clinging to a cliff’s edge on a winter morning. To me, it is a metaphor for resilience and strength—a reminder along life’s journey to pause, enjoy the view, and have faith through life’s changing seasons.

Pre-Visualization. Many of my photographs begin with a vision long before I pick up my camera. Sovereign of the Storm began with imagining a mountain goat enduring a fierce winter blizzard on a remote cliff. Above 10,000 feet, these magnificent animals inhabit some of Utah’s most rugged and unforgiving terrain. Capturing this rare scene took repeated journeys into winter storms, persistence, and a little luck. What began as a vision became a celebrated art piece (see below).

Mirrors and Metaphors of Life. Season in nature, are reflections of our own lives. First Snow on Fall Leaves — La Sal Range marks autumn’s passage into winter. The follow on art piece When the Leaves Are Gone reveals life’s next chapter. An image taken along a stream in a desert canyon titled Departure, elicited many feelings. Two leaves symbolize the union of a couple, pausing briefly before drifting downstream on a shared journey through life’s ripples and moments of calm serenity.

Museum Art. My large format silver-based prints are hand developed in traditional baths, and fused in a clear museum acrylic. A silver print to me is a scene you can walk into, and all three of my museum exhibitions were this medium. I also offer exhibition canvas wraps, metal art on aluminum, and loose prints on artistic papers.

Your Home Is the Gallery. For large works, I offer complimentary, in-home consultations. Without gallery commissions or storefront overhead, your investment goes directly into the art itself. Together, we can find the perfect piece for your home, to include simple lighting upgrades through professional installation.

Instruction. For anyone wanting to improve their vacation photography or pursue more serious work, I offer private and group photography instruction. In March 2026, I created and led the Moab Landscape Photography Retreat, combining classroom instruction with hands-on learning in Utah’s spectacular red-rock country.

News and Media. For television features, newspaper articles, and interviews about my photography, click the social media icons in the header at the top of this page.

Connections. As you explore my galleries, I hope my photographs connect you not only to the landscape before you, but to the landscape within you.

Artist to Client Direct. I have moved beyond gallery representation to work personally with collectors, offering custom-curated, museum-quality art at roughly half the gallery price. No shopping carts or checkout—every piece is personally overseen by me, from selection through installation. Simply share an image you love or request a complimentary consultation. I would be delighted to bring the gallery to you.
