Award-Winning Landscape & Wildlife Photography
of Park City & The American West

Welcome!

My name is David Winegar, a Utah native and longtime Park City resident. Since 2003, I have created photographic art celebrating the landscapes and wildlife of the American West. My photographs are presented as museum-quality silver-based prints, fine-art canvas, aluminum, and archival prints on carefully selected artistic papers.

All my photographic art is camera-based and created by me in an age of AI. See my Transparency Statement for details on truth and transparency with customers.

Knowing a Place. Certain places stir a spiritual connection in me and invite the possibility of a fine-art photograph. But to achieve the final photograph that best celebrates a scene, I feel that I need to learn all I can about a place and explore its rhythms through changing seasons and light. My goal is to create art that evokes emotion and tells a story—not simply a photograph of a place, but a photograph about a place.

The Art & Presentation. A fine-art photograph is more than the image itself. It deserves a presentation that complements, rather than competes with, the scene. My Snowstorm Sheet Music, often mistaken for a hand-drawn sketch, is printed on textured Hahnemühle cotton rag paper and presented in a simple black frame. The paper’s texture and natural white tone complement the softness of the falling snow, while the black frame echoes the starlings, allowing the image to speak for itself.

Park City. The trails around my Park City home have inspired images celebrating its wildlife and landscapes, from Rob’s Trail Baby Moose to Rob’s Trail Vista. My photograph Leap of Faith, capturing a red fox leaping across McLeod Creek along Park City’s Old Ranch Road, earned First Place in Wildlife at the Art Wolfe International Photography Competition. The image is a signature wall hanging and was selected for permanent exhibition at Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter.

Desert Landscapes. I have a deep love for the desert Southwest. My photograph Balancing Act captures a solitary Utah pinyon pine clinging to a cliff’s edge on a winter morning. To me, it symbolizes resilience—enduring life’s storms while firmly rooted in stone. Subtle silver toning lends the image a timeless, vintage character.

Pre-Visualization. Many of my photographs begin with a vision long before I pick up my camera. One night, I imagined a mountain goat enduring a fierce winter blizzard on a remote cliff. These magnificent animals inhabit some of Utah’s most rugged and treacherous terrain, in deep snow above 10,000 feet. Capturing that vision required repeated journeys into winter storms, persistence, and a little luck. What began as a vision became one of my most celebrated works, Sovereign of the Storm.

Mirrors and Metaphors of Life. To me, the changing seasons are quiet reflections of the chapters of our own lives. First Snow on Fall Leaves — La Sal Range marks autumn’s passage into winter, and When the Leaves Are Gone reveals life’s next chapter.

The Quiet Details. Some of nature’s smallest scenes hold meaning for me. My photograph Departure, captured along a stream in a desert canyon, portrays two leaves connected together before drifting downstream. To me, they symbolize two lives joined in a shared journey, navigating life’s ripples and the adventure ahead.

Instruction. For anyone wanting to improve their vacation photography or pursue more serious work, I offer private and group photography instruction. In March 2026, I created and led the Moab Landscape Photography Retreat, combining classroom instruction with hands-on learning in Utah’s spectacular desert landscapes.

News and Media. For television features, newspaper articles, and interviews about my photography, click the social media icons in the header at the top of this page.

Connections. As you explore my galleries, I hope my photographs and their stories connect you not only to the landscape before you, but to the landscape within you.

Your Home Is the Gallery. I offer complimentary in-home consultations to help you find the perfect artwork for your space, including lighting recommendations and professional installation. Without gallery commissions or storefront overhead, your investment goes directly into the art itself. No shopping carts or checkout—just personal service, with every piece overseen by me from selection through personal delivery and installation. Simply share an image you love!

I would be delighted to bring the gallery to you.

Snowstorm Sheet Music

2026 International Photographic Competition — Bronze Medal

As a winter storm sweeps across the landscape, a flock of starlings takes refuge in a tree. Facing into the wind and snow, they hold fast with quiet resilience—in life we will face our own storms. Hold fast and have faith.
